Thoughts on Scribbles Editor

Each blogging platform editor demonstrates its priorities through the functionality it provides. Some target short posts, while others want you to write longer posts. However, the Scribbles editor is confusing. The first deviation from the trend is that it doesn't support markdown. But then, neither do WordPress and other CMSs by default. So, does it target users moving away from such loaded systems? No idea.

Markdown is fine, but it is not a format I have any particular attachment for. I generally use keyboard shortcuts and, hence, really do not care what happens on the screen.

I liked the interface early on with Scribbles, but it feels too restrictive now. The text area needs to be slightly larger—I have no idea why it is so small. It feels stuck between targeting micro-posts and long-form posts. Though the larger font and the overall interface functionality (auto-save, drafts support) lean towards long-form editing, the size doesn't like posts going long.

Plus, the editor is getting crowded now with too many options. Why does it need so many icons? Selecting defaults is essential, and they would never be suitable for all.

Overall, I love the simplicity of this platform that Vincent is creating. It's unique in its way. But I wish it was more opinionated with who it wants to target.
