I wonder if writing from a desktop is the best way to get writing. There is a benefit to always having a web interface to write. Why not? You can log in from anywhere and start typing. No need to look for a desktop app. No need for a ready writing set-up. All you need is internet access.

A desktop app, when available, kills all prerequisites. It is far better than logging into anything. When you are struggling to write, even that one step is enough of a hindrance.
